Brass Screws

2025-04-15 09:26:36

Brass Screws: Brass Screws refer to screw products made of brass Materials. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with excellent conductivity, corrosion resistance and machinability. Due to its material properties, brass screws are widely used in electronics, Electrical appliances, furniture assembly, building hardware, instrumentation and other fields. Common brass screw specifications cover thread diameters from M1 to M12, and lengths can range from 2 mm to 80 mm, suitable for scenes ranging from precision parts to medium-sized structural connections.

Brass Screws

Uses:

In the electronics and electrical Industries, it is used to connect electrical components such as circuit boards, motor end covers, and transformer terminals to ensure conductivity and contact stability.

In the furniture manufacturing industry, brass screws are used to fix and splice wooden furniture and metal decorative parts. They are not only firm but also decorative, and are suitable for European-style, high-end custom furniture.

In the field of building hardware, it is used for assembly of door locks, door hinges, bathroom pendants, etc., because of its corrosion resistance and rust resistance, it is especially suitable for coastal areas.

In the instrumentation industry, it is suitable for high-precision connections, such as surgical equipment, optical instruments, electronic measuring tools, etc., which have higher requirements for the anti-magnetic and dimensional accuracy of screws.

In addition, in the fields of model manufacturing, watch repair and handicrafts, brass screws also play an irreplaceable role, especially in small-size fasteners (M1.6, M2, etc.).

Material type:

Common materials used for brass screws include H59, H62, C3604 and lead-free environmentally friendly brass. H59 is one of the most widely used standard brasses, with a copper content of about 59%, good mechanical properties and processability, and is suitable for general industrial applications. H62 has a slightly higher copper content and stronger toughness, and is suitable for assembly scenarios with certain impact loads. C3604 is a leaded brass with excellent cutting performance, suitable for automatic lathes to produce high-efficiency precision screws. Lead-free brass is used for products that meet EU environmental standards, such as medical devices, children's products, food processing equipment, etc.

Features:

Good electrical conductivity: The electrical conductivity of brass is about 28% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard), which is much higher than ordinary carbon steel. It is suitable for use as electronic components, grounding screws, terminal fixings, etc. Especially in low-voltage conductive connections, brass screws can effectively reduce resistance losses and improve system stability.

Excellent thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of brass is about 109 W/m·K, which is suitable for the installation of heat dissipation components and the fixing of electronic equipment. It helps to evenly distribute heat and conduct it quickly, reducing the thermal load of electronic systems.

Good corrosion resistance: It is stable in marine air and humid and hot environments, and can resist weak corrosive media such as air, moisture, and alcohol. A dense oxide film can be formed on its surface to prevent further oxidation. In the 96-hour salt spray test, there was no rust reaction on the surface of the brass screw.

Excellent machinability: Brass has good turning, milling, and tapping performance, and is the preferred material for automatic lathes and CNC machine tools. Its machined surface finish can reach Ra0.8, which is suitable for high-precision, small-size screw manufacturing.

Low friction coefficient: Brass has a low friction coefficient (about 0.35-0.5), which can reduce the resistance generated during locking and screwing, improve installation efficiency, and reduce the risk of jamming or thread slipping.

Non-magnetic material: Naturally non-magnetic, it is suitable for equipment that is sensitive to magnetic interference, such as medical instruments, aerospace electronics, electromagnetic test systems, etc.

Beautiful and decorative: Brass has a golden metallic luster, and the surface can be treated by polishing, nickel plating, gold plating, etc., and is widely used in furniture decorations, retro hardware and other occasions with high appearance requirements.

Good dimensional stability: Brass has a small thermal expansion and contraction coefficient at room temperature and is dimensionally stable. It is suitable for mechanical component connections that require long-term use and strict dimensional tolerances.

High environmental safety: In compliance with RoHS and REACH standards, some environmentally friendly brass (such as C6801, C69300) is lead-free or low-lead, suitable for medical devices, children's products, food equipment and other high environmental protection requirements.

Advantages:

Strong anti-oxidation durability: Brass forms a protective film in natural oxidation, which is not easy to rust or discolor in long-term use. Its service life is about 3 times longer than that of carbon steel screws, especially suitable for humid or salt spray environments.

Adaptable to a variety of substrates: Suitable for connecting substrates such as wood, plastic, aluminum alloy, copper, and stainless steel. The thread meshes smoothly and is not easy to get stuck, and high-strength fastening can be achieved on substrates of different hardness.

Excellent electrical performance: The use of brass screws in electrical structures can significantly reduce contact resistance. Tests show that the use of brass screws can reduce contact resistance by more than 30% compared to steel screws.

Strong anti-thread slipping ability: Brass has moderate toughness and low indentation, and is not easy to slip or bite when screwing into nuts or other internal threaded parts. It can be used in repeated disassembly and assembly structures with nylon locking washers.

High processing efficiency and short delivery cycle: Suitable for automated production such as CNC Turning, cold heading, and tapping. Raw materials are easy to obtain, processing time is short, and large-scale customization can be completed within 7 days.

Support diversified customization: thread type (metric, US, imperial), thread length, head type (such as cross pan head, hexagon socket, countersunk head, plum head), drive slot shape, electroplating color, etc. can be customized according to customer requirements.

High cost performance: Although the price is slightly higher than carbon steel, the total cost of ownership is low considering its durability, electrical characteristics and aesthetics. Taking 2025 data as an example, the average price of brass is about US$4.5/kg, which is more competitive than US$5.2 of 304 stainless steel.

Support micro-specification processing: Brass is very suitable for precision micro screws (such as M1.2, M1.4), and is an important accessory for small electronic products such as mobile phones, glasses, and watches.

Environmental regulations support export: Brass screws that have passed RoHS, REACH, and lead-free certification can be smoothly exported to countries and regions with strict environmental protection requirements such as the European Union, the United States, Japan and South Korea.

FAQ:

Are brass screws more corrosion-resistant than stainless steel screws?

At room temperature and pressure, and in an environment without strong acid or alkali, the corrosion resistance of brass is better than that of carbon steel but slightly lower than that of 304 stainless steel. However, in a humid or salty environment, brass is stable and will not produce electrochemical corrosion reactions in electrical applications, making it more suitable for electronic products.

Can brass screws withstand high loads?

The tensile strength of brass screws is between 250 and 500 MPa, which is suitable for medium and low load applications. For structural connections that need to withstand high-strength tension or impact, alloy steel or stainless steel screws are recommended.

Is it easy to slip during installation?

The hardness of brass is relatively low. It is recommended to use appropriate tools and torque control assembly to avoid over-tightening and slipping. For frequent disassembly scenarios, nylon washers or force-limiting tools can be used.

Are brass screws suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. They have good weather resistance and are suitable for most outdoor environments. However, in areas with high acid rain, strong alkalinity or severe industrial pollution, it is recommended to choose brass screws with special plating to enhance durability.

Does it support non-standard customized specifications?

Yes. Brass materials have strong machinability, and manufacturers can customize special threads, special-shaped heads, lengths and sizes according to customer drawings or samples to meet the needs of small batches, high requirements and fast delivery.
